Norma Knobel Hunt ('60) was the "original soccer mom," says Dan Hunt, president of FC Dallas.

"Mom loved soccer," he says. "And she loved the people who made the game special -- the players, the fans and the community that is built around the pitch."

This spring, UNT officially named its soccer field Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium after the alumna who supported the sport's growth nationally.

"Seeing her name on this stadium will be incredibly special for our family," Dan Hunt says. "She would be so proud, and she would absolutely be sitting in the stands cheering on the Mean Green."

An honors graduate, Norma Hunt was a former president of the Chi Omega sorority and mentored students. She went on to become a teacher and, later, a founding investor in the Chicago Bulls, the North American Soccer League and later Major League Soccer, including FC Dallas, with her husband, the late Lamar Hunt.

Clark Hunt, chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs and FC Dallas, adds, "She believed in the power of sports to bring people together, and we strive to bring her same joy, grace and generosity to our work throughout the North Texas community. Before she was our mother, she was a teacher, and I know that she would be thrilled to support the university in its mission to help young people reach their full potential."

3.457

Last fall, UNT student-athletes achieved the highest departmental grade point average in Mean Green history with a 3.457. For the first time ever, all 14 athletic programs earned a semester GPA above 3.15. Six teams earned the highest semester GPA in their programs' history, and four others achieved their second-highest.
